Softball Evaluations

2024 Evaluation dates

10U, 12U and 14U players could be scheduled for evaluations at some point during these times, depending on the need. Evaluations will only be held at a level when necessary.

Pitchers and catchers:

  • March 9th, 8 a.m.-noon, SAVHS Upper Gym

All players:

  • March 10, 1-4 p.m., SAVHS Upper & Lower Gyms

Pitchers and Catchers

SABSA Evaluations are scheduled separately for Pitchers and Catchers. All pitchers and catchers must also attend general skills evaluations.

Catchers: bring your gear if you own a set.

Pitchers:  Please bring a warm-up Catcher; you may arrive 10 minutes early.

Players should attend the session for their age level" (age as of 8/31/last year), unless requesting to play up a level, in which case players need to evaluate at both levels.

General Evaluations

Players should wear gym shoes and appropriate practice attire. Bring your glove, bat*, and helmet* (*if you own one).  Please arrive 15 mins. early for check-in at the Commons

There are no make-up evaluations. In the event a player cannot attend a general evaluation session, last year's coaches' evaluation will be used for roster placement.

Requests to "Play Up"

If your player would like to be considered for playing in an older age group, SABSA President must be notified.

Players requesting to play up must evaluate at both levels of play, with the exception of 8U players who may only evaluate at 10U.

Rosters and Tryouts

Based on registrations received per age level, it is possible that we will not be able to offer roster spots to all registrants. In this event, evaluations will become tryouts.

If SABSA is unable to roster every registrant, we will attempt to find opportunities to play with neighboring communities. Registration costs, excluding the small non-refundable online fee, will be refunded or forwarded to the neighboring community's Association.

Evaluators and Team Formation

Evaluations are scored by a combination of St. Anthony High School coaching staff and independent collegiate coach evaluators.

Within SABSA and League guidelines, teams will be formed according to age and demonstrated ability. SABSA partners with the St. Anthony High School  coaching staff and Huskies Diamond Club Board Members to form teams.
